One end of LED is cathode and the other end is anode. Whole chip encapsulated by epoxy resin. The Semiconductor chip consists of two parts. One part is p-type semiconductor, in which electron hole is dominant, and the other part is N-type semiconductor, in which electronic is principal. When two kinds of semiconductors are connected, a PN junction will be shaped between them. When current passes through wire to act on this chip,electronic will be pushed towards P region, where electronic will do the recombination with electron hole, then energy will be sent out in the form of photons.This is the theory of LED's luminescence.
